Cephalaxin: Cephacanin Tablets

Cephalaxin Tablets IP

Indications:

  • For the treatment of bacterial skin infections in dogs (including deep and superficial pyodermas) caused by organisms susceptible to cephalaxin
  • For the treatment of cutaneous & subcutaneous infections (wounds & abscesses) in cats caused by organisms susceptible to cephalaxin
  • For the treatment of urinary – tract infection in dogs and cats (including nephritis and cystitis) caused by organisms susceptible to cephalaxin

Dosage and Method of Administration:

15mg of cephalaxin per kg bodyweight twice daily (eq. to 30mg per kg body weight per day) or 30mg of cephalaxin per kg body weight once daily for a duration of:

  • At least 15 days in case of superficial infection dermatitis in dogs
  • At least 28 days in case of deep infection dermatitis in dogs;
  • days in case of cutaneous and subcutaneons infection (wound and abscesses) in cats
  • 14 days in case in case of urinary-tract infection in cats and dogs

Composition:

For 600 mg tablet Each uncoated tablet contains: Cephalaxin IP eq. to anhydrous Cephalaxin 600mg
For 300 mg tablet Each uncoated tablet contains: Cephalaxin IP eq. to anhydrous Cephalaxin 300mg

To achieves this dosage in dogs and cats, administer One Cephacanin tablet of 600mg per 40 kg of body weight, twice daily or One 300mg tablet per 20kg of bodyweight, twice daily or One Cephacanin Tablet 600mg per 20 kg body weight, once daily or One Cephacanin tablet 300mg per 10kg bodyweight once daily.

To ensure correct dosage, bodyweight should be determined as accurately as possible to avoid under dosing, Cephacanin tablets are well accepted by dogs and cats but in some cases, tablets may be crushed or added to food if necessary. In severe or acute conditions, the dose may be safely doubled.
