Doxycycline & Lactic Acid Bacillus

Available Strengths: 100mg, 200mg & 300mg

Composition (per tablet):

– Doxycycline Hydrochloride – 100mg / 200mg / 300mg

– Lactic Acid Bacillus spores – As per standard

Indications:

  • Ehrlichiosis
  • Babesiosis (used adjunctively with antiprotozoals)
  • Lyme Disease
  • Leptospirosis (as part of combination therapy)
  • Chlamydia & Mycoplasma infections
  • Toxoplasmosis
  • Tick-borne fever (Hepatozoon canis)
  • Urogenital infections (e.g., pyometra, prostatitis)
  • Respiratory tract infections
  • Wound and skin infections

Dosage (Dogs):

Doxycycline –

  • 10 mg/kg body weight once daily
  • or 5 mg/kg body weight twice daily

Route: Oral, after food

Duration: Depends on the disease (typically 14–28 days)

Precautions (Dogs):

  • Always administer after meals to reduce gastric upset.
  • Avoid using with calcium, iron, or dairy within 1–2 hours of administration.
  • Ensure adequate hydration during treatment.
  • Do not use in puppies <6 months if alternatives are available.
  • Monitor for vomiting or inappetence.

Precautions (Cats):

  • Use with caution due to risk of esophageal strictures.
  • Never administer dry tablets directly. Prefer a liquid formulation.
  • Follow tablet with water or food to ensure complete swallowing.
  • Observe for vomiting, drooling, or inappetence.

Mechanism of Action:

Doxycycline – A broad-spectrum tetracycline-class antibiotic that inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit.

Lactic Acid Bacillus – A probiotic that supports gastrointestinal health by maintaining gut flora during antibiotic therapy.
